What TV footage do you want to use? I uploaded some of it, and I know about some of the items with "debatable" copyright status (like "Your Hit Parade", which is technically public domain but contains some covers of copyrighted music, and thus is probably not be safe to use in a film project).

That one is out of the question: While the presentation is uncopyrighted, most of the shows shown are under copyright. In other words, "the promo reel" itself technically PD, but clips, would create legal havoc, except for the bits of footage filmed exclusively for the special (it's sorta like taking a photo of a chain-store. The photo could be PD, but the store logos in it would still be trademarked)
